Episode 3

Well, that didn’t take long.  Even though I’d been warned in numerous podcasts about podcasting not to, we have been recording directly into the computer.  On Tuesday, about an hour and 15 minutes into recording, the software I use crashed, and did not save our audio recording.  Luckily, I, for the first time, was using my digital audio recorder as a backup.  What you hear here is the best I could accomplish with my limited knowledge and experience.  I hope it won’t hurt your ears too much.

Virginia proposes invasive procedure for abortion seekers

This is sick stuff.  As proposed, this law was going to require sonograms, many of which would require the use of a vaginal probe, before an abortion could be performed.  Even as passed, it sucks:  doctors would be required to offer to perform the sonogram.

We get in to this from two directions – How the law, even as passed, is really an attempt to side-step Roe v. Wade, and how incredibly misleading the authors of the article were, since they were reporting on a version of the law no longer proposed.

Economic argument for birth control coverage

In this segment, we cover an interesting article outlining an economic argument for the Birth Control Coverage mandate.

Megadeth frontman backs Santorum

Dave Mustaine, leader of the heavy metal band Megadeth, is ready to rock out for Rick Santorum. “Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable,” Mustaine recently told MusicRadar.com. “… You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum.”

”Scientology is evil; its techniques are evil; its practice is a serious threat to the community, medically, morally, and socially; and its adherents are sadly deluded and often mentally ill… (Scientology is) the world’s largest organization of unqualified persons engaged in the practice of dangerous techniques which masquerade as mental therapy.” – Justice Anderson, Supreme Court of Victoria

Some Details:

The upper OT levels of Scientology are kept secret from new members who are told that exposure to the material before they are ready could prove fatal. They must spend years of indoctrination and hundreds of thousands of dollars before finding out Scientology’s core beliefs which revolve around intergalactic battles and an evil overlord named Xenu.

Brian – Order of the Stick Kickstarter Drive (Main site for Comic)

Rich Burlew has been publishing his webcomic, Order of the Stick,at www.giantitp.com since 2003. He held a kickstarter fundraiser drive this past month, hoping to raise $57,750 in order to reprint maybe the first book in the series. The drive ended this morning, and ended up raising $1.2 million dollars. For a comic strip consisting of stick figures. That’s amazing.

  1. The trials and tribulations of podcasting. I will have to pass on this episode but I do like what you guys are doing.

PS: Your Facebook like on the left is broke. Also, do a search for zee themes, they look nice and have a few different options. Check-out my sites: atheistsocialworker.org, anatheistgoestochurch.org or bestofellis1.com.

  2. Thanks again, cwebb! I totally understand about passing. We’ve got a mixer on the way, and will be recording with better mics and into a digital recorder this coming week.

I may need to change methods for getting those subscription links in place, the one I’m using puts the old FB pages prefix in front of the url you give it. I’ll get working on it. As to the themes, I’ll probably be activating BuddyPress soon, as I want to encourage an organic community. Since I don’t want to get into the back end of WP, I’ll probably just be using the BuddyPress theme.

    • Back to form and I’m sad to hear the Rock Band mics have been retired. The Think Atheist podcast has good content but their audio is horrible but I suffer through it.

      Keep it up
